Prayer as a road to God

Pray Without Ceasing: What if It’s As Easy As Breathing?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Pray without ceasing is the seemingly impossible direction Paul gave us in his letter to his friends the Thessalonians. What if it’s as easy as breathing? There are several ways to fulfill this challenging and beautiful spiritual discipline. One of the simplest is to turn breath into prayer. In my last blog, How Conscious Breathing Works Two Miracles in Our Lives, I promised I would write a breath prayer for you to pray this week. Please inhale and exhale with me this breath prayer without ceasing.

You probably know this but a breath prayer is one where you inhale a truth about God and exhale how that truth affects you.

Inhale:

I receive the grace-filled presence of your Spirit.

Exhale:

I release my powerlessness of my troubles.

I absorb the Father’s hessed and forgiveness.

I discharge all guilt and shame.

Inhale:

I believe in Jesus, the Way, Truth, and Life.

Exhale:

I let loose of my flaccid self-sufficiency.

Inhale:

I enter into the mystery of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Spirit.

Exhale:

I escape the vast loneliness of my existence.

I breathe as life your eternal life given by Jesus your Son.

Exhale:

Amen

this is so wonderful, Eugene!,… & thank you for this!,…

it’s a slightly different perspective on something that I wrote to you (in a comment) about what the Lord said to me many years ago, when I had been spending a lot of time “down for the count”,… He said to me “not to worry ~ if I just breathe, I am blessing the air with every breath that comes into me and then goes back out again (into the world),… it was such a wonderful concept to me at that time, that even just having faith, loving God, and breathing, could be considered “doing God’s work” (in His eyes),… I’ve never been the same,… and what you’ve written here is now assuredly “taking it up a notch!”,… God Bless & thank you!,… g (-:

  2. I recently began reading ‘Invitation to Solitude and Silence’ by Ruth Haley Barton. I will use your prayer as I develop the discipline of sitting in silence before the Lord
